Australian 1797 Penny Cartwheel King George III Coin - Proclamation Coin - Impressed J.Hughes. Possibly John Hughes an Irish settler and grocer of Sydney in the mid 1800's. A poor coin misshapen with poor detail showing wear consistent with very long term circulation and very heavy handling impressed J.HUGHES. This style of coin is recognised as a proclamation coin and with currency in short supply in our early settlement days they were usually very heavily handled leaving them very worn with little or no detail, please view images.
