Three sets of dies were produced by the Melbourne Mint workshop - one of which was rejected outright, with the other two both faulty. A vast percentage of 1923 Halfpennies bear die-cracks, and it is likely that the dies were used to strike only a limited number of coins in fulfillment of the order of the Commonwealth Government.
